Bossa nova is neither jazz nor blues. It's Brazilian music adapted to jazz, with jazz chords, harmony, and arrangements by Stan Getz, Herbie Mann, C. Byrd, and Dizzy Gilespie.

It was the era of cool jazz fusion, jazz bebop.

This Brazilian music was born from the blend of African music with European rhythms, such as the Portuguese moda, the German Scottie, the Polish mazurka, the Polish waltz, and the Austrian polka. This music gave rise to choro and samba, which evolved from samba maxixe to carnival samba and romantic samba, or samba canção.

Jazz has this artistic ability to incorporate national music from each country, such as Caribbean, Latin, and African music, and return to its roots.
