In the 1950s, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, C Byrd, Herbie Mann, Tony Bennett, Quincy Jones, and Stan Getz, sought new sources to enrich jazz. Jazz has this plastic capacity to incorporate national music while maintaining its roots. 

This was the case with Caribbean, Latin, African music, and Boa Nova, which was adapted to cool jazz.
